2 year check up in 2016
5 year check up in 2019 and all in PERFECT ORDER - couldn't wish for better.

I have suffered terrible pain for many years ,after having spinal surgery in June 2018 the consultant realised I had further problems with my hip , in his own words he said he would refer me to one of the best hip surgeons in the country Mr James Hutchinson. I found him to be a very professional genuine and caring man with a lovely bedside manner; I had a total hip replacement 8 weeks ago it went exactly as Mr Hutchinson said it would with no complications the result is life changing and I am pain free !!! An amazing man who my family and I will be forever grateful, he performed his magic and gave me my life back . I would definitely recommend him to anyone needing a brilliant orthopaedic surgeon. Having suffered since I was 50 with Arthritis in BOTH knees my GP finally after years of medication suggested I apply for replacement surgery. I was unable to walk more than 2 miles or stand for any amount of time without being in pain. The medication was addictive and stopped me working effectively, and I could not leave the house without taking the tablets.
After consultation with Mr Hutchinson he agreed to replace my right knee in October 2016. He advised me to wait until I felt the other one needed replacement, this I did and at my last follow up appointment with Mr Hutchinson he recommended me to have the Left knee replacement (April 2019).
Mr Hutchinson is extremely professional and instils a confidence about his work. He is a specialist in his field and you know your life is in good hands,
I cannot thank Mr Hutchinson enough. The team at the Nuffield are excellent and my recovery has been brilliant. 9 weeks on and my advice to anyone who is contemplating the operation, you MUST to be willing to do the physio daily and keep moving and walking and sometimes pushing through pain to achieve the end result and Mr Hutchinson must do your operation.

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Royal Derby Hospital and Derby Nuffield Hospital. I have been in my current post since 2002.
I specialise in primary hip and knee replacement, revision hip replacement and the management of periprosthetic fractures.
My medical school training was at The Queens College , University of Oxford and Addenbrookes Hospital, University of Cambridge. I carried out additional training in complex hip and knee surgery during a 12 month Fellowship in Perth, Western Australia.
I submit all my cases to the National Joint Registry and the outcomes of my last 3000 joint replacement cases put me in the top 5% of UK surgeons in terms of revision rate.
Hip and knee replacement is a real passion of mine- I firmly believe you only live once and that well performed hip and knee replacement prolongs good function and improves quality of life.
